The Bishnoi people are followers of a 15th century sage, Jambeshwar whose creed contained many environmental principles and as such they protect every living being, if necessary with their lives.
Bishnois believe they will be reborn as deer, and because of their protection, antelopes and blackbucks are readily found on their lands.
We also got to see wild peacocks, quail, flamingoes, ducks, geese, coots, egrets, wading birds, and wild pig as we drove along some side roads within about 15 miles of Jodhpur.
